There are many types of discrimination in sports around the world. Today, we will be focusing on sexism. Sexism has long history and has negatively affected a lot of people’s lives.

In sport, many tennis and football players go through this. This gives them less opportunities and less confidence in their matches and games.

Did you know, in tennis women are receiving less money than men. For example ,Serena Williams earns 27 million dollars but Rodger Federer earns 64 million dollars.

Next, Alex Morgan( a famous female footballer) earns 3 million dollars a year, but Ronaldo gets 21.5 million dollars a year.

A ridiculous 46.2% of female footballers have received sexist comments.

Surprisingly, a French tennis player, Alize Cornet gets violation when having a shirt change after round loss to Johanna Larsson. However, the U.S Open stated , “All players, men and women, can change their shirt when sitting in the player chair.’’

Well many people do it due to race, culture, religion and much more . It’s  been  around for decades and for a long time there has been  very little change. Sexism is brutally affecting many players all over the world.   Players are feeling offended which disrupts them when playing sport because of how people have judged  them  in different ways. For example, people are saying that women’s sport are not interesting enough even though women are beginning to like and play sport even more than they used to .

David Moyes (ex-  Manchester United manager) said that he might slap  the female journalist interviewing him because she was a woman. Serena Williams accused the Umpire of being sexist at the US Open 2018.She received three code violations after calling the umpire Carlos Ramos a thief and a liar.  Would a man have been given these?

I personally think that sexism is a disgrace. Women shouldn’t have to experience  mean comments; they should be treated with respect. There have been many incidents where men have been unkind to women.

I think that sexism is really unfair because anyone should be allowed to play sports even if others think they are not suited to. Certain sports should not be  labelled as ‘ a men’s game’. Also, another massive problem haunts black and ethnic minority sportspeople, racism. It is slowly creeping back into English  football and we need to punish the racist offenders.

There are some positive changes happening in sports such as tennis. Andy Murray is an example of a feminist who corrected a reporter at a press conference that not every American was out of Wimbledon – only the men—highlighting female players as being equal.

I think that sexism is really unfair because anyone should be allowed to play sports even if others think they are not suited to. But sports are never necessarily labelled as ‘ a men’s game’. Also, another massive problem haunts black and ethnic minority sportspeople, racism. It is slowly creeping back into English football and we need to punish the racist offenders.
